Are the true cowboy ways fading?

Cowboy code of the west

Code of the West.

  • A cowboy always helps someone in need, even a stranger or an enemy
  • A cowboy is loyal to his "brand," to his friends, and those he rides with.
  • Never shoot a woman no matter what.
  • Respect the land and the environment by not smoking in hazardous fire areas, disfiguring rocks, trees, or other natural areas.
  • Honesty is absolute - your word is your bond, a handshake is more binding than a contract.
  • Live by the Golden Rule.
  • Look out for your own.
  • Defend yourself whenever necessary.
  • Never steal another man's horse. A horse thief pays with his life.
  • Don't inquire into a person's past. Take the measure of a man for what he is today

Hi! I am married to a man with an authentic cowboy spirit. He believes in integrity and honesty, he opens the car door for me and he is always respectful. He is also ready for the fight at the O.K. Corral! He truly loves the cowboy ways and Open Range is his favorite movie. There are still cowboys among us! I read the publication Cowboys and Indians and they feature many cowboys. Cowboys can be difficult to identify, because they don't always wear hats! I love your blog! Warmly, Valda

Valda, Thank you for taking the time to comment on my blog. Your man definately sounds like a true cowboy. I love any movie with Robert Duvall in it.

You are a truly unique and genuine person.

Cheers

I knew some of that but some of it was new to me, like not asking about a cowboy's past. I'm afraid most people don't live by this code today, it seems. Thanks for joining the History & Home link party, take care - Dawn @ We Call It Junkin.com
